Working in a factory, on the shop floor or in transportation involves certain dangers. One item that serves to prevent life-threatening situations is protective clothing. It’s not just meant to keep your new jeans from tearing. See why you should dress in work clothing at work and what goes into it.

Why wear work clothing?

The simplest answer to this question is that it is required by health and safety regulations. Workwear has special parameters to protect your skin, clothes, and even your limbs from potential injury. In order for the clothing to perform its protective function, it must be worn in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, and it must be in good condition, meaning it must not show signs of deterioration. A torn shirt or shoes with holes in them will no longer protect you effectively

There are different types of workwear, for example in various laboratories and in protective environments workers are required to wear disposable overalls, hair caps, goggles and protective masks. The same applies to the workwear of people who come into contact with corrosive or hazardous substances such as toxic substances at work

What is included in work clothing?

Most sets of workwear consist of three elements – the upper part, the lower part and the shoes. The type of clothing depends largely on the purpose for which it is to be used. On construction sites and in warehouses, the main element of work clothing is work pants. Also very important are shoes, which in dangerous conditions protect feet, especially toes from crushing, damage, injury or, for example, being run over by a forklift. While these scenarios may seem absurd, they are not at all unlikely

Protective gloves have a similar function to boots. First of all, they are designed to prevent cuts, cuts and act as a barrier between the skin and harmful substances. Sometimes protective clothing also includes headgear, for example, if it involves prolonged work in the sun. It can also be a protective cap for the hair

What parameters should work clothing have?

To properly perform its protective function, work clothes must be made of specific materials. The thickness of the fabric and the type of weave are of great importance for the usefulness of the clothing in various situations. The material of which the pants or work gloves are made must be thick enough not to be burnt by a small amount of corrosive substances or heated machinery. It must also protect against heat and possible burns and cuts. The type of weave of the fabric from which the garment is made is responsible for its resistance to tears and cutting with a sharp object

Wearing work clothes is very important, not only because it protects your personal clothing from dirt and damage, but most importantly because it protects your body and health. At home, “work clothes” may be old jeans and a shirt that doesn’t come off with a raspberry juice stain, but it has nothing to do with real protective clothing. Take care of your health and safety at work – wear the right clothes.
