More and more people are choosing to shop online. The coronavirus pandemic has further reinforced this trend. How does this affect transport?
The Internet is bursting at the seams with the number of products and services offered. Nowadays you can find there almost everything you want. Non-stationary shopping is becoming more and more popular and in fact there is no item which we would not get online. The development of e-commerce in Poland began in the first decade of the 21st century and from then until now the number of supporters of this solution is constantly growing. And not without reason! In case of some brands online stores displaced stationary ones and it did not affect company’s income – quite the opposite. One of the largest Polish online transaction platforms is Allegro. Initially, the site was dedicated to collectors – individual users could buy and sell items. Over time, however, Allegro has attracted the interest of many businesses, which wanted to sell their products and services via the site. Shopping online has many advantages. First of all, such a solution is convenient and extremely easy. In the blink of an eye, you can find what you need. And thanks to transport companies and great logistics, the product usually arrives very quickly.
Stationary trading is one form of retailing. It is based on the management of facilities whose location does not change and which are available to the customer in a clearly defined period of time. Stationary retail has always been with us and probably will be for a long time to come, and perhaps forever. The great advantage of this solution is that a customer interested in a given item can see it live and make a reliable assessment of quality or fit, as in the case of clothes or shoes. Unfortunately, this is where the advantages end, if we want to compare it to online shopping. Stationary shopping is, above all, not very practical. It involves going to a place and sometimes waiting in long lines. In addition, usually the items that are available stationary are much more expensive than the same offered online
With the development of civilization, transportation has grown rapidly. Nowadays, it is an integral part of trade, and as we well know, trade is one of the most important areas of the global economy. One of the many tasks of transport is to carry cargo from one place to another, and the increasing demands of consumers require a widely developed transport network. Only thanks to this it will be possible to deliver a given product in the shortest possible time to any place in the world. Transport is extremely important in trade – both stationary and online. Without it, acquiring customers would be difficult, and in the case of e-commerce simply impossible
The development of e-commerce has a huge impact on the transport industry. The number of investments in logistics, shipping and carriage of goods is growing every year. The result is the popularization of online services and the slow displacement of stationary retail facilities. As already mentioned, transportation is an integral part of e-commerce. Consumers buying a product can count on it being delivered right to their doorstep. And all of this is thanks to increasingly developed and modernized transportation companies. High dependence between online trade and transport does not cause decrease of importance of transport in stationary trade. This issue remains unchanged. However, there is no doubt that it is e-commerce that gives more opportunities to transport companies. Online trade is a huge opportunity for their development. So far, it has been used one hundred percent. It can only get better in the future, especially since the coronavirus pandemic has made online sales even more popular than before. Month after month, transport and courier companies have more and more work. It is very possible that this will remain the case forever. A large number of people have only now found out how convenient and easy it is. It will be a shame to give it up.
