Truck combustion control – how to do it effectively?
It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

Combustion control is not only limited to checking whether there is theft in the company. It also makes it possible to detect any irregularities that could have a negative effect on the company’s financial situation. During the inspection, a number of pieces of information are checked, and the more of them there are, the more precise this activity is, of course

Burn rate – the values that tell us about it

With the help of an in-depth analysis of the data that we will give below, it is possible to develop an optimal level of combustion. Here they are:

  • driving time,
  • the fuel level from the float,
  • average periodic combustion,
  • number and quality of revs,
  • fuel and oil temperature,
  • coolant temperature,
  • battery condition,
  • vehicle speed.

Well, but how to get such data? This is where technology, advanced monitoring, technical capabilities of the vehicle, and GPS function come to the rescue

Obtained information after a thorough analysis can show the mistakes of drivers, because we are not necessarily talking about theft of fuel. For example, an employee can idle too often, often exceed the speed limit, or irrationally refuel the vehicle. There is also a badly chosen route, which is not always the fault of the driver himself, and bad record of working time.

Ways to monitor and control fuel consumption in a truck

There are several ways to effectively and above all precisely control fuel consumption. The cheapest way is to connect GPS device to the car computer. Combustion level will be based on the float, which is factory placed in the fuel tank

The second option is to control consumption with the help of CAN bus, which provides information about the level of consumption, but also about the engine speed. A frequently used solution is the use of a fuel probe. It is used almost always when there is no CAN bus, which is mainly in older models of cars

However, this is not the end, the methods of monitoring fuel consumption can also include a flow meter, which, however, must be connected to the CANbus system or a float. The next solution is a detector that protects the fuel filler. In this case it is possible to control when the fuel filler is opened and closed, which can work closely with the GPS recorder. That’s not all, the detector also secures the filler with an anti-theft strainer.

In summary, to control combustion you need a range of information related to engine speed or fluid temperature. These will be provided by the technologies mentioned in the article, such as GPS logger cooperating with a float.

By implementing these solutions, you can manage your company’s fleet more effectively. Moreover, this can lead to measurable financial savings, as many companies have already found out.
